The short version
Other services make you upload your file to their cloud, wait, then send a link. Terashare doesn't. We open a direct, encrypted peer-to-peer connection from your machine to your recipient's — your file streams across the wire as soon as they click the link. No upload, no storage, no waiting.
Three steps
- Pick a file. Drop any file on the share box — gigabytes, terabytes, doesn't matter. Terashare creates a magnet link instantly.
- Share the link. Send it over email, chat, anywhere. Your recipient opens the link in their browser. No app required on their side.
- They download — directly from you. The file streams peer-to-peer. As fast as your connection and theirs allows.
What about when the recipient is offline?
That's where credits and subscriptions come in. Upload to our cloud as a fallback, set retention, and your recipient can grab it whenever. You only pay for the convenience — peer-to-peer stays free.
End-to-end encrypted, by default
Every file is encrypted in your browser before it touches the wire. The server, our cloud, and the peer-to-peer swarm only ever see scrambled bytes. We can't read your files — and neither can anyone else who happens to intercept them.
Three properties make this safer than most "encrypted" file-sharing tools:
-
The key never reaches our servers. It rides in the URL fragment (the part after
#), which browsers never send. Even a full breach of Terashare gives an attacker ciphertext — useless without the key. - Post-quantum safe. No RSA, no elliptic curves, no asymmetric key exchange — so a future quantum computer can't retroactively decrypt files you share today.
- Standard, audited primitives. AES-256-GCM via the browser's built-in WebCrypto — the same cipher that protects your HTTPS connections.

Why this matters
- No artificial file size limits.
- No upload wait — transfers start immediately.
- Your files don't sit on someone else's server unless you choose.
- Works on Mac, Windows, and Linux.
- Free for direct peer-to-peer. Always.
